Back-to-School Night/PTF Minutes

Approximately 60 parents and teachers in attendance.
Potluck dinner served
Speaker: Dr. Hubert Hartzler, Ph.D from San Antonio, TX, spoke about the importance of Christian education. His presentation was titled, "Philosophical Distinctives of Christian Education". He utilized interactive lecture notes and overhead equipment citing scripture and quotes from theologians and founders of Christian education.
Principal, John Spriggs, discussed recent accomplishments and new additions to school such as new playground, landscaping efforts, electives and junior high basketball. Encouraged interested parents/volunteers to present and lead weekly electives in field or hobby of specialty.
Holly Crain, PTF President, introduced self and other new PTF officers, V.P., Ivannia Rodriguez, Treasurer, Kathie Arena and Secretary, Audrey Murray. Congratulations given to the accomplishments of last year's PTF fundraising efforts. Discussed "Snowflake Gala" to determine interest. Little response given. Potential dates available for 2nd annual gala announced: Friday, January 28th or Friday, February 4th. Preference not yet determined.
Holly encouraged efforts to promote attendance at Gala. Suggested everyone bring at least 2 people. Other large fundraiser, Spring Walk, was mentioned. Currently scheduled, March 30th to 31st. 10k was achieved from last spring's event. Suggested sending Spring Walk flyers earlier, possibly even at Christmas to elicit as much support as possible. Inquired about what people wanted to raise money for this school year. Holly offered a list of possible ideas: pavement of parking lot, computer lab equipment, scholarships or general fund. Based on audience clapping, scholarships and new parking lot were the most popular. In conclusion, Holly encouraged involvement and thanked everyone in advance for their support.
John Spriggs gave closing prayer and invited guests to tour school and shop at Shepherd Christian book sale.
Next PTF meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 18th at 3:30pm.
